Donating to Ukraine

Members of the CAN community donate to the Ukraine. For example, Microcontrol provides cardboard packaging for safe packaging of food, pharmaceuticals, and sanitary products. CiA, NXP, and Schneider Electric also make a contribution and donate as well.

The war in Ukraine shocked us all – and solidarity with refugees and people in distress is overwhelming, stated Microcontrol (Germany). Aid organizations collect a lot of goods for humanitarian aid – and these have to be suitably packed for transport. The company supports the campaign spontaneously by providing sturdy cardboard boxes for safe packaging of food, pharmaceuticals, and sanitary products. “Just a small contribution but with a big effect”, said Frank Wielpuetz, Managing Director at Microcontrol. For 25 years, the company has specialized in providing CAN applications for demanding industries as e.g. mechanical, automotive industry, renewable energy, and medical technology. They provide solutions to transmit analog measurement signals such as temperatures or pressures to, for example, a CAN interface during the process. The company is member of CAN in Automation (CiA) since 1997.

CiA also stated on its website, that they regret any victim on both sides of this war. Thoughts and sympathy are with them and their families. CiA donates to Aktion Deutschland Hilft to help war victims in Ukraine. The Aktion Deutschland Hilft is a coalition of renowned German relief aid organizations.

NXP Semiconductors (Netherlands) also made a statement: “We are shocked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and deeply saddened by the suffering of its people. Our hearts are with those who remain to defend their country, the refugees seeking safety, and everyone around the world with family, friends and ties to Ukraine. We are concerned for everyone in the region, including our NXP team members. We stand firmly with the global community and with the people of Ukraine in calling for a swift return to human rights and peace. The company has suspended all shipments to and business with customers in Russia since the end of February and Belarus since early March, and continue to comply fully with applicable measures and sanctions, they explained.

NXP will be making a donation to the United Nations Refugee Agency, also known as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), to aid and protect refugees from Ukraine. NXP, CiA member since 1992, provides a range of CAN and CAN FD based products. They recently announced the first design-in of CAN SIC transceivers compliant with CiA 601-4 in Chinese passenger cars. The company lately offers the TJA1462 CAN SIC transceiver intended as a replacement for CAN high-speed transceivers, such as the TJA1042 or TJA1044GT. It features a low-power, standby mode.

CAN-product provider Schneider Electric gave also an update on Ukraine and Russia: “Our priority at Schneider Electric remains the safety of our people and their families. Schneider Electric is supporting its Ukrainian employees by ensuring their financial security and providing temporary housing for their families. Our employees from around the world are also supporting this initiative, helping their colleagues in need through donations. Additionally, the Schneider Electric Foundation is supporting its NGO partner ‘SOS Attitude’ to set up a refugee camp in Moldavia”. Since February 24, the company has put on hold new investments as well as the international delivery of new project orders destined to Russia and Belarus. “We are doing so while we implement all applicable sanctions and regulations that are imposed in the various jurisdictions where we operate. We are also doing so while remaining committed to our Russian employees”, they stated on its website. The company’s subsidiary in Germany (Marktheidenfeld) is also CiA member since 1998.
