Advantech (Taiwan) released the EPC-R7200 series of Nvidia Jetson compatible industrial-grade barebone PCs. Variants with a CAN interface are available.

The PC is equipped with a carrier board that is compatible with three types of Jetson modules (Xavier NX, TX2 NX, and Nano) in terms of form-factor and pin configuration. It provides several camera inputs for implementation of smart vision-based systems. The unit also features a HDMI port for 4K-resolution displays, two 1-Gbit/s Ethernet ports, two USB 3.2 ports, and two M.2 slots for wireless modules. Variable extension possibilities regarding I/Os and communication interfaces are available. The ESD-protected device with an aluminum housing and improved heat dissipation via heat spreaders, sizes 152 mm x 137 mm x 42 mm. Supported operating temperature ranges from -40 ºC to +85 ºC and the power input from 9 VDC to 24 VDC.

The implemented Nvidia Jetson modules operate with the Nvidia Jetpack SDK (software development kit) comprising Jetson Linux driver package (L4T) with Ubuntu Linux operating system and Cuda-X. Both solutions serve to accelerate AI (artificial intelligence) application development.

Manufacturer’s AI-computers use cases

The recent EPC-R7200 PCs are suitable for use e.g. in wafer transfer robotics. The semiconductor industry requires precise work in wafer production deploying wafer transfer robots, including stationary robots and autonomous mobile robots (AMR). In the AMR type, the system needs a computer with a sufficient machine vison and AI capability for environmental sensing and reaction. Furthermore, compact size and low-power efficiency are important features for longer operating time per single charging and easier system integration in a limited space. The EPC-R7200 PCs achieve AI capability of up to 21 TOPS (Tera operations per second) for environmental sensing and detection. They also offer industrial I/O connectivity for camera image data, and robotic reaction control. In the example application CAN is used for motion control of the robot arm. The manufacturer can pre-integrate and verify the software development platform for the end customers. This includes the Linux operating system, industrial I/O drivers, as well as ROS (robot operating system) software libraries and tools.

Smart robotic applications are increasingly used in service sectors such as warehouse, shopping malls, and retail chain stores. To embrace this trend, Advantech provides the AIR-020 AI-computing platform focusing on service robots. As an example, it is deployed in a commercial robot platform designed as a service robot to deliver foods or packages. The in-building delivery robot uses different interfaces to connect sensors such as lidar, cliff sensor, ultrasonic sensor, and a camera to avoid the obstacles and deliver packages to the assigned location. The deployed compact PC functions at temperatures from -10 °C to +55 °C and at input voltages from 12 VDC to 24 VDC. CAN connectivity for sensor connection and control is given.
